Is the ocean at Oasis on the Beach good for swimming?
Yes. With year-round ocean temperatures in the low 80's, and no sharks or baracudas (or any other potentially dangerous fish for that matter), the ocean at Zancudo is nearly perfect for all levels of swimmers. We even have a very gradual grade going into the ocean. And on most days, you can even choose the wave height you prefer. Waves are quite big to our south, and small to our north, with the ocean in front of Oasis on the Beach being a happy medium. A short stroll on the beach takes you to varying wave sizes if you prefer. Whatever your ocean preferences, Oasis on the Beach is ideally situated for the perfect Costa Rica vacation.

How is the surfing in Costa Rica?
Pavones, situated on the southern coastline of Costa Rica, is less than an hour from Zancudo by road or boat. Pavones is a world class surfing destination for surfers of all experience levels. The wave at Pavones needs a BIG southern swell, and is a great wave if you catch it when it is working. It is known for having the longest left-breaking wave in the world. If you are flying in on Sansa airlines, they do not allow surfboards over 7 feet in length, so keep this in mind when planning a Costa Rica surfing trip.

What is sport fishing in Costa Rica like?
Costa Rica has long been a favored destination for anglers seeking a warm climate for a sport fishing vacation as the waters feature both marlin and sailfish in abundance. In fact Golfito, Playa Zancudo and the Osa Peninsula are teeming with great sport fishing locations.

How is the bug situation in Zancudo?
In Costa Rica, as in virtually all tropical climates, bugs are an important part of the ecosystem. However, we are quite fortunate in that the bugs in Zancudo seem to go someplace else during the day (maybe they're sleeping). The only time they become an issue at all is in the evening time, when we recommend you apply a bug repellent. All of our living accommodations are well screened. Our restaurant is the only restaurant in Zancudo that offers air conditioned seating (taking you out of the elements) if you desire. Outside seating is also available.

What will the weather be like for my vacation in Costa Rica?
Since Costa Rica is near the equator, the weather in Playa Zancudo varies only a few degrees during the year. It's usually in the mid 80's during the day, going down to the comfortable 70's at night. The main difference is our rainfall, which is almost non-existent from December through April. But even during the height of our "green season", the rain usually only happens at night saving the day for great beach weather. And hearing the rain on our cabin and villa roofs at night is quite enjoyable. Oasis on the Beach is a great destination for a Costa Rican vacation at any time of the year.

Can I use a credit card in Playa Zancudo?
Most places do not accept credit cards. The few places that do must add a service fee to the total. Oasis accepts Visa, and Mastercard...No travelers check are accepted at Oasis on the Beach. There are No Atm's in Playa Zancudo and No bank!

Are your electric plugs at Oasis on the Beach compatible with U.S. appliances?
Yes. 

What kinds of food do you serve at your restaurant?
We serve typical Costa Rican favorites, some borrowed from Mexican favorites, many American dishes. Lots of fish and shrimp, and of course our famous pizza! Our breakfast menu is also quite extensive. Please let us know if you have special dietary preferences, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Are there taxis or some form of transportation in Playa Zancudo?
Taxi's are available but no rental cars. Also buses are available to take guests to Golfito, Pavones or Paso Canoas (the town bordering Panama). To go out of town, there are boat taxis and a bus that leaves every morning that will get you to the border of Panama. In addition, we offer bicycles for our guestsí use.

What should we bring for our vacation at Oasis on the Beach?
Remember to pack light. Sansa airlines (the main Costa Rican shuttle airline) has a weight limit of 25 pounds of luggage per person and a length restriction of 7 ft for surfboards. They will charge for any weight over 25 pounds amount. Light beach clothes are all you really need. Hiking shoes and long pants for the evenings might also come in handy, and perhaps a flashlight for nighttime strolls. If youíre coming during our green season, an umbrella can be useful for those evening showers. Of course remember to bring bug spray, a hat and suntan lotion.
